actually it's about democrats deflecting for Williams.

or at least that's what conservatives say while holding back tears.

BiggerJ - 2015-02-25

When I got to 'democrats deflecting for Williams' my brain filtered it to 'ethics in videogame journalism'.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-02-25

So Williams tells a lie/misremebers which chopper he was in while in an actual war zone = crucifixion.

Lying about where you were during a war over sheep = no problem, true journalist, wave American flag.

I can barely be bothered to give a damn if Brian Williams embellished, exaggerated, and/or outright fabricated anecdotes in the past. Yes, it erodes his personal credibility, but not a whole lot of his job revolves around doing actual reporting these days. It would matter a lot more to me if he were still a reporter or, like Papa Bear, someone whose show hinges upon his trustworthiness.

There's also the matter of the impact of the lies. It's one thing to say one was on a helicopter that was hit; it's another to say that you saw Saddam Hussein building WMDs while cackling like a madman. As far as I can tell, neither Williams nor O'Reilly have told false personal anecdotes that have any impact on anything.

SolRo - 2015-02-25

O'Reilly's lies have a great impact on his bank account...he stuffs his books full of them to get sales.

infinite zest - 2015-02-25

Glad to hear somebody else shares my opinion. I'm surprised more people aren't up in arms about Chris Kyle's false accounts, which actually involved, you know, killing people. And not just overseas but also looters in New Orleans, getting in fights, etc. Like, I was pretty pissed at Jesse Ventura continuing to sue the family after his death, because at that point what does it matter, but what does it matter if Bill O'Reilly and Brian Williams both jumped out of the same helicopter, got attacked by wild angry penguins or whatever the fauna is in the Falklands, and solved a rubicks cube in one minute the chase?

SolRo - 2015-02-25

mass disinformation does have an effect.

this isn't a crazy guy holding a sign on a street corner, this is a crazy preacher with millions of voting viewers and political sycophants.

infinite zest - 2015-02-25

Yeah, can't argue with you there. In my world Williams and O'Reilly are as simple as the guys who report the weather. If the weather guy was outside reporting a hurricane that wasn't happening and I had to stay indoors, I'd be pissed, but some story from 12 (or 33) years ago doesn't really affect me one way or the other. O'Reilly's gonna be O'Reilly and Williams is gonna be Williams. It's red and blue to me. If Al Roker embellished a bit on some weather story from the 90s, I doubt anyone would care because it already happened.

Old_Zircon - 2015-02-26

In your world, Williams and O'Reilly are Harry and Susan.

Old_Zircon - 2015-02-26

It's OK if you need Google to get that joke, I needed Google to make it.

infinite zest - 2015-02-26

Still not sure if I get it, but I did stumble across some interesting Harry Potter vampire fanfiction in my google search :)

infinite zest - 2015-02-25

So.. O'Reilly went from CBS covering the Falklands in 1982 to ABC as a local news anchor in Portland, Oregon in 1983?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-02-25

His former colleagues are spilling the beans

Bill O'Reilly is living the AMERICAN DREAM as envisioned by the FOUNDING FATHERS, the words of whom must be strictly adhered to and never altered or questioned even if we don't know 100% what they actually said or intended to say, JUST LIKE THE BIBLE!!

You think your GPS maps and shit prove he wasn't there mixing it up with the Royal Marines or whatever? Your scientists can't even prove why the tide comes in or how the moon got there!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-02-25

I love how Bill poked the hornet's nest of integrity that is Mother Jones and thought no one, like say ABC, would back them up.

Because you don't have scores of enemies that would love to see you eat shit, Bill.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-02-25

"I'm coming after you with everything I have. You can take it as a threat" Bill O'Reilly's quote regarding New York Times reporter Emily Steel.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-02-26

A "threat" as opposed to "bloviating temper tantrum as per usual."

Old_Zircon - 2015-02-26

I love the incongruity of the library music. Sounds like a commercial for a T.J. Maxx holiday sale in 2003.

Scrimmjob - 2015-02-26

The great part about this is O'reilly isn't a journalist. He may have been in 82, but that ended a long time ago, just like almost everybody on fox news he is a political commentator or whatever they want to call them. The O'reilly factor is entertainment, just like Charles In Charge.
Hopefully this goes somewhere, but most dummies who watch fox news will just keep the blinders on, and take everything Billy says as gospel truth.

chumbucket - 2015-02-26

He would have been far better off if he just did it live.

oddeye - 2015-02-26
