A lot of 80s cartoons had this really weird corruption fetish: the villains of Spiral Zone + anyone who went into a zone without protection, Inhumanoids turning the heroine into a giant ghoul (twice!), Captain Planet and Linka becoming a crack whore one episode.
Come to think of it, they were all probably supposed to be part of the war on drugs scare.

Nominal - 2015-03-07 If anything, that Captain Planet episode showed WHY drugs are appealing. You have Wheeler trying to crack that ice queen Linka for the entire series. Then one dose of omni drug and she's a DTF sexy skank? Kids, say no to drugs and stay forever rejected by sexy Russians!

Nominal - 2015-03-08 I think you're thinking of the 2 parter episode "There's No Place Like Springfield" where Shipwreck wakes up in a hospital and is told he was in a coma and now lives the suburb life with a wife and kids. That fucker gave me nightmares for a week.

Episode 4 is actually the first episode of the show - they played it out of order, as networks were wont to do in those days.
I tried showing this to a group during on those movie broadcasts I sometimes do, and it was just too weird and muddy and bleh to inspire much comedy.
Maybe another episode.
Fun fact: The writer, Fettes Grey, was the pen name of Babylon 5's J. Michael Straczynski. He did a lot of oddball cartoon writing at this point in his career.

Kabbage - 2015-03-08 Also I'm pretty sure one character is just a straight-up Nazi
|
BHWW - 2015-03-09 Straczynski helped develop the cartoon, but took his name off it after the Powers That Be changed a lot of his stuff - Fettes Gray being derived from the names of two characters from Robert Louis Stevenson's short story The Body Snatcher.

This show has one of the best intro songs of all time. If there was one thing cartoons in the 80s and (to a lesser extent) 90s did well, it was knowing how to sell you a show on the intros alone.

Nominal - 2015-03-09 Commercials are good at coming up with catchy jingles.

Knowing that there is a complete DVD collection of this, and the fact that that DVD was purchased makes me very sad

My god, their accents. It's like an American version of Hetalia.
