Could be good, could be shit.
Either way, the casting for Jet is unbelievably perfect.

Cena_mark - 2021-11-10 They should have gone with more of a Chris Pratt type.

Binro the Heretic - 2021-11-10
I'll give it a chance.
But where the fuck is Ed?
|
|
garcet71283 - 2021-11-10 Ein is also missing from the trailer even though the dog was cast and they made a big deal about it.
It's probably a thing.
|
Binro the Heretic - 2021-11-10 Ein was in the other trailer, the one that replicates the anime intro.
But Ed was not.

SolRo - 2021-11-10 American productions can’t figure out how to put kids into an “adult” story other than mindless drama set pieces.
|
Callamon - 2021-11-11 Ein is in this trailer...
|
SolRo - 2021-11-11 Though now that I thought about it, Ed isn’t much of a person in the anime either.

SolRo - 2021-11-10
I don’t care if it’s good or bad, I want to hear the new soundtrack Yoko Kanno will be making for it

This looks like a C- cosplay troupe got a bunch of Netflix cash dumped on then, and still looks cheap.
Why in the world would you cast the oldest, least expressive cast member as Spike? Why did they turn Faye into Scarlet Jo's Black Widow, dressed as a steampunk mechanic?
Honestly if it wasn't for the music, I'm not sure I'd even be able to recognize that it was supposed to be Bebop. The actors don't fit. The visual tone is off. The characters feel like something Bryan Lee O'Malley shat out. And the choreographer looks like they don't have a fraction of the skill needed to pull off a Bebop action sequence.
(seriously, every action shot seems like it holds for too long, seconds after the actors were expecting to hear "cut". 1:25 and 2:04 are just embarrassing)
-3 spirit stars for "What the actual fuck?"

|
Callamon - 2021-11-11 Their cartoon clothes look even weirder because the people around them don't seem to be that way.
|
BHWW - 2021-11-12 It just looks so cheap and nasty, very rushed, and the "jokes", along with their timing and delivery, are almost perfectly emulating a ChannelAwesome sketch.
I half-expected it to end with Doug Walker popping up to say he hopes we enjoyed their Cowboy Bebop parody sketch, and to tune in for more wacky remake hijinks in the next episode of Demo Reel.

No, I will no give it a chance. What the fuck happened to you people.

|
SolRo - 2021-11-11 As I said I’m just waiting for the soundtrack. Will pirate the show if reviews say it’s actually good.

teethsalad - 2021-11-12 ditto there's no way i'm watching this

No Netflix series will ever look good. The specs are made with people watching on their phones in a bright room as the metric.

casualcollapse - 2021-11-12 What are you even talking about all these are encoded with Dolby vision and meant to be displayed on television with OLED and HDR

In the spirit of the original series, which featured sharp color design, the producers of Netflix Bebop have decided to vomit A E S T H E T I C colors over everything. Grainy sludge-brown all over your screen, don't your eyes feel blessed.
The footage so far released does not impress, what with the Marvel Cinematic Universe-esque "quipping" and terrible camera work and filters. The action looks undercranked, slow. Everyone looks too old and stiff.
|
Nominal - 2021-11-14 Yeah it's pretty obvious that this was made by people who had no clue what made the show so appealing. It's just below average cosplayers (along with the "quirky" manic pixie member who insisted on reimagining Faye as steampunk) rotely trying to recreate shots from the show.
I've seen amateur Youtube fan videos that do a better job. This just has an FX budget and that terrible Zack Snyder dark color filter. It's like they had such a poor understanding of film, that they think "noir" = dark = dark color filter.
In addition to making the protagonists stiff, they made the villains all wacky. Did anyone watch the show? It was the polar opposite. A big part of the appeal was seeing typical serious anime villains and how atypical, laid back yet light hearted heroes dealt with them.
This looks as awful as Netflix's Deathnote movie. It looks so bad, I had to go check if it was directed by Adam Wingard, the king of missing the entire point for adaptations and remakes (Deathnote, The Blair Witch).

love - 2021-11-21
watched the first two episodes, it was fun, looked cool , di the job. I'm sure there's 1 million nerd rage boners out there, but, it's on the better side of what you'd expect for a show based on a cartoon. at least one thumb up possibly two.
