I'm glad this made it. That was too close.

Those are certainly some low frequency dots to connect

Nominal - 2024-02-20

The Jon Stewart comeback nobody wanted.

Well, nobody but the "political apathy is cool" crowd that he helped spawn 20 years ago.

SolRo - 2024-02-20

Feel like Stewart promoted non-extreme engagement, or at least being informed

Now southpark definitely promoted political apathy and libertarian shitheadedness to two generations and counting

Quad9Damage - 2024-02-21

Jon Stewart's Daily Show was the fake news that constantly showed how the real news was twisted, contorted, and full of CGI explosions. He gave us a basic lowdown of what was going on, but he also kept us laughing during really dark times.

These are the darkest of times right now. War is breaking out everywhere. America faces economic uncertainty and apocalyptic weather. One Presidential frontrunner is old and frail. The other most-likely one thinks the President is supposed to be king, and that Russia should rampage free all over Europe if some imaginary invoice isn't paid. At the VERY LEAST, can we have Jon Stewart?

And South Park, while I will not lie and say I don't enjoy watching South Park, has been the same two guys going through growing pains for over 25 years. It's like if any of us picked up our old journal and flipped to it. You can't revisit their old entries without tripping over some really dumb shit they said.

Gmork - 2024-02-21

You've gotta be pretty retarded to think jon Stewart promoted political apathy

Quad9Damage - 2024-02-21

If anything, it was the polar opposite of political apathy. The Craig Kilborn years were more focused on pop culture. Jon Stewart was the one who really brought in politics as a spectacle worthy of headline news, especially with Indecision 2000/2004/et al.

ashtar. - 2024-02-21

Trump is a danger to democracy because his cultish followers ignore all his obvious flaws and support him no matter what he does. That's why it's so important that we ignore Biden's obvious flaws and blindly support him no matter what he does.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2024-02-21

Where have you gone, Jon Stewart?
Our nation turns its lonely eyes your way.
Hey hey hey!

I'm 65, 15 years younger than Biden, and let me tell you, folks, I am too old to be president. I spent an hour and a half today trying to take a shit, squatting like a dog, pouring down strong coffee, straining and growning like Lon Chaney Junior transforming., completely incapacitated by a big hard turd that absolutely laid me low. You wouldn't like me when I'm constipated.

Biden is doing fine in that normal, mainstream capitalistic president way that makes American leftists want to burn everything down, and I'm not unsympathetic to that , but I would vote for the dark mass that finally came out of my ass today, if it was running against Donald Trump.

Sludge Vohaul - 2024-02-21

Perhaps instead of the cognitive assessments we should be doing a Shitmus test for president.

Crackersmack - 2024-02-21

yes it was a tv show that caused widespread political apathy and not electing a very popular young 'progressive' president along with once-in-a-generation gigantic congressional majorities and giving them a mandate for bold political change, only to watch them use that power to co-sign and expand all the worst abuses of the previous far-right administration

Quad9Damage - 2024-02-22

A vote for Biden is a vote against Trump. That's all it is. It was a vote against Trump in 2020. I voted Biden in '20 on one issue, "someone with fucking common sense about a goddamn virus." Oh, and Section 230, but the first one was a bigger deal. With Biden, you get a President who has done the same things every other President has done the last 81 years of Biden's life, but he also seems to have read a Civics textbook at least once.

ashtar. - 2024-02-22

Biden is a little better than Trump. No argument. He's also a very weak candidate. A functional party would have replaced him as the nominee.

If stopping Trump from being president is your main concern, then by all means vote for Biden. But you should also be very mad at the leadership of the Democratic party for sucking and losing constantly, all being older than Leonid Brezhnev, and fighting against things that their base really likes.

Gmork - 2024-02-22

I'm not sure why you're assuming that isn't what the majority of us feel, ashtar. I mean, that was the take when Biden was running the first time. I'm just waiting for a grassroots murder the rich party to start.

Mister Yuck - 2024-02-22

Biden was an incredibly weak candidate in 2020 and a real testament to the complete disorganization and dysfunction of the Democratic Party that they couldn't find anyone better. Now he's 4 years older and obviously missing even more steps. Beating Trump should be a slam dunk, as it should have been in 2020 and 2016. The Democrats are pathetic.

I would have said that Biden was an okay to pretty good President until this fall. Sure he's senile, but he's fairly charismatic and he made decent domestic appointments and got a few good things snuck through in the budget bills which is as good as you can hope for with our awful Congress. But he's burned any goodwill he had from me down to the ground. He's greenlighting a genocide and reigniting wars all over the Middle East for no reason I can understand. It's literally insane. I'm starting to think maybe having a dottering old man, who was never even in his prime especially competent, in charge of the global empire is a huge mistake.

Crackersmack - 2024-02-23

America is experiencing multiple massive crises and once again democratic majorities were elected in response and once again they did basically nothing

this is not 'as good as we can hope for,' these people can move huge amounts of money and effort towards projects when they want to, like Ukraine or those PPP 'loans'... they just don't give a shit about anything that affects non-rich people because they don't have to.
because we vote for them anyway. all they want from us is our votes, they can't do anything without them, and you all happily give them away in exchange for nothing. and then you get mad at the people that ask why.

Quad9Damage - 2024-02-23

I guess it's hard to tell the Israelis to stop mass-murdering if you want to keep camping in the Mediterranean Sea. Like there's a certain way that has to be approached, and Biden didn't have much prepared except "hurblurblurblabluff well just ease urrrblurrf civilians if you can, hurblurfbluh"

glasseye - 2024-02-23

Enthusiastically supporting a genocide and running concentration camps on the border are bad. He's further to the right than Reagan and H W Bush on these issues.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2024-02-29

Crappersnack, there are millions of nonrich people receiving essential aid from the government. Your rhetoric is invalid, full stop.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2024-02-29

Yeah, Biden is too old.

Some of the left got mad, but I think it was a smart move for Jon Stewart to establish a baseline of objectivity by saying what we all know.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2024-02-29

Public opinion is shifting against Israel. Remember when I wasn't convinced this was a genocide? I lost that argument. I am officially on board now.

Which party is more likely to respond to the shift in opinion? I think it's the democrats. HELL, I'm a Democrat, and I've shifted dramatically.

Biden was enthusiastic back when Israel was defending itself against terrorists, back when I was ambivalent. I will make excuses up until the election.

Those on the left who won't vote for Biden unless he stops supporting Israel, I don't think it's the right choice, but I can't judge them. I am reminded of Black Bart holding the gun on himself in Blazing Saddles, which seems dumb, but maybe sometimes that's your only move.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2024-03-03

The dumbest thing you could be, dumber even than going full MAGA, is to talk about this election like it was a normal election, comparing "policies" like these things matter right now.
