Fox News doesn't like it when you feel good about yourself. For obvious reasons. Man, they can't even say it with a straight face.
Also, someone should find asian dubs of Mr. Rogers to shut these punks up.

Xenocide - 2007-07-18
The idea of baby boomers accusing anyone of having a sense of entitlement carries with it enough irony to power Las Vegas for a thousand years. Double points for a bunch of people who are paid to sit on couches and read from a teleprompter thinking they have the right to lecture ANYONE about hard work.
Did these idiots not notice the episodes where Mr. Rogers took kids to see people at work? He did plenty to get kids excited about future careers. The difference is that he didn't buy into the notion that Fox's whole ridiculous thesis is based on: the idea that what makes someone special is holding a job. Rogers believed work was important, but he resisted the idea that you should define yourself solely by what you do for a living. He simply taught kids that what you do is not who you are: "who you are" is a much more complex and meaningful concept. It's not something that ceases to exist if you get laid off or can't find work.
I can see why the Fox crowd would have a problem with this.

They're pissed off because they're yuppie douchebags who expect their children to be treated like the only children that matter, not "everyone's special" and your Timmy is just as entitled to a good life as Johnny. My dad used to coach t-ball when I was growing up in the early 90's and he would have these yuppie assholes come up to him screaming about how their children were the best and deserved to be the stars of every game. Of course, he ignored them and gave every kid a chance to succeed which I'm sure pissed them off to no end.
On a side note, I agree, let's beat the crap out of them.
|
Rudy - 2007-07-19
So many reasons for a perfect rating:
- Mr. Rogers tries on a cap with a bill that looks longer than his arm
- Mr. Rogers tries on a leather jacket on the Arsenio Hall show
- Fox News has a button that plays "Awwwww!" whenever they want to make fun of whiny liberals.
- Fox News' version of kindergarten:
"OK, listen up you worthless little bitches! You want a snack? Go wash my car and do a good job for once!"

Nothing they say can ever take away from what this man was and what he did. All this clip did was remind me once again about how great a man Rogers was and still is. It brought a smile to my face to remember him.
I can't hate the people at Fox News for this, all I can feel for them is pity.

asian hick - 2007-07-21
Letter I sent to Fox News:
Hi,
I wasn't aware you guys had switched "Half Hour News Hour" to that time slot, but I think the program has really improved.
The satire piece of Mr. Rogers being evil was perfect. The irony of baby boomers complaining about children feeling a sense of entitlement was spot on. The distortion of study results to fit a preconceived agenda was also a perfect parody of the modern liberal media. The fact that, of all the shortcomings in the modern American household, Mr. Rogers is being blamed was also an excellent mockery of misplaced priorities.
I thought that bringing the weatherman into the scene made it a little too comical, but when he rattled off the line about how, of all the difference between Asian and Occidental culture it must have been not having Mr. Rogers there that accounted for the difference in mindset, I nearly cried, with laughter of course.
I'd like to see more things along this vein of satire. Perhaps how Ghandi created the unrest that plagues the developing world?
Thanks,
|

I think the real reason for all this spite is that the Fox News anchors are jealous that Mr. Rogers could go out in daylight and eat onions.

Merkwuerdigeliebe - 2008-07-12
Fair and balanced.
I wonder if these people realize how utterly worthless and insignificant each of their lives are, particularly when compared to a truly great man like Fred Rogers. No one will remember any of their names on the quinquennial celebration of their deaths. They will not be mourned internationally. A viewer may shrug her shoulders and say "oh, huh, that guy died. His new replacement is cute. What time is Dancing with the Stars on?" At most, they will be given a multi-day tribute similar to that recently-deceased Tim Russert received, only on an infintesimally smaller scale, to correspond to their importance: That of the empty suits and skirts which occupy daytime chit-chat TV.
Most likely, the reason why TV news personalities honor each others' passings with the TV news equivalent of presidential state funerals is because they realize how ethereal and temporal their fame is. If you can call it fame - these people would not be recognized in the street, or in a deli. You may be able to pick out their over-filled, under-saturated egos in a crowd, though. They will not be remembered, and for a good reason - they never did anything with their lives worth remembering, whether they sat in front of a camera and gabbed about things so mundane it's painful to watch, like these walking-talking Barbie and Ken dolls, or spun pop-news stories like "real journalists," their lives are about as empty as their suits. Even if they have 33 year transnational careers like Rogers - which they won't; they aren't smart, talented, creative, unique, or likeable enough - they would still be sitting in the same set chatting about celebrity gossip and how "public television is the voice of evil."
Fred Rogers began his career by purchasing the set materials out of his salary of a week. That first show was called "Children's Corner." Fred Rogers produced it, worked the puppet theater, and played the organ. To borrow the title of the article where I got that fact: "Can you say 'Role Model,' boys and girls?" But what about these Fox Friends? They are insignificant, interchangeable, caustic. In truth, they are everything that Fred Rogers was not. They just talk and talk about what other people have accomplished - people like Mr. Rogers, who dedicated their lives to helping people - in Mr. Roger's special case, instructing children in culture and values, and opening their minds to the world; entertaining children with wholesome, positive programming; personally introducing them to people like Yo-Yo Ma, who would sit down and play the cello for them, in a private performance just for them in their living rooms; Mr. Rogers became a family friend, not just "the guy on TV."
But what have these Fox Friends produced themselves? Nothing. What will be their enduring legacy, this video on YouTube and PoeTV? Great, they'll be preserved for the derision of future generations, while my grandchildren sit in front of the TV's newest hypertechnological replacement and joyfully watch who? That's right: Mr. Rogers, a role model, not an empty cardigan sweater.

Merkwuerdigeliebe - 2008-07-12 Mr. Rogers earned a Lifetime Achievement Award. I'd like to see them show me their Pulitzers, or hell, even an Emmy.

WTF? Mr. Rogers has been spreading his special brand of child crippling evil for thirty+ years. So which generation are these imbeciles babbling about? He was broadcasting while these vapid morons were growing up so how did they manage to escape Fred Rogers' mental maiming of Americans? I doubt anyone could be a TV "personality" without having watched a good deal of it themselves growing up.

Isn't the conservative message against legal abortions based upon their belief that every baby is special? So, why is Scott Roeder not as beloved in this country as Mr. Rogers is? Oh, that's right they both believe everyone is special and important, its just that Mr. Rogers wasn't a F*CKING FASCIST.
