Me, I really do plan to get a few once I have a place big enough to allow for a good sized fenced-off area with a pond for them to swim in. They make good pets, but they lots of space and access to a good swimming hole.
Isn't this the creature from that horrible urban legend were the guy brings home a "stray dog" which in turn disembowels the family cat. The clincher was when the guys brings the culprit to the vet the next day he finds out it was not a dog but in fact a Capybara (horrifying).
The way I heard it, a guy bought a Capybara from a less-than-reputable exotic pet dealer and ended up with one of those terrifying feral Mexico City dogs. Those things will rip apart a cat. A Capybara, on the other hand, just likes neck scritches.
I don't know if this means anything, but Opossums are pretty brutal around cats. I used to live in an apartment where we had to be very careful about allowing cats to play outside, as there were tons of Opossums in the neighborhood. I've seen multiple instances of what they'll do to a cat when confronted, and it's really harsh... straight up disembowelment.
I was crestfallen to learn that the Metro Toronto Zoo recently got rid of their Capybara exhibit (my favourite one) because it wasn't "interesting" enough for visitors. Fuck people.
The quality of this sight seems to be going down lately... I don't mean to poopoo poetv as a whole. But you know, I come here for weirdness and the obscure and I'm getting a lot of viral videos and somethingawful and stuff. I'm not even really complaining that hard because I skip a lot of the shit I see and submit what I like and the few people who like what I like have our little club and maybe we help other people to like what we like in the process. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love capybaras but the audio is kind of fucked up for me on this clip. Anybody else getting fucked up audio?
