Ignore the fake paranoia and cheesy sound effects. The cinematography is freaking AWESOME!
"The Earth was created, not with the gentle caress of love, but with the brutal violence of rape. KSSSSHHHSHAAAAAAAAAAAH"
okay I'm going to watch this.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this. I've been lookling for it on videotape/dvd since about 91, when my dad first told me about it.
THIS IS WHAT ENTOMOLOGISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE.
Frank Herbert wrote a novel called "Hellstrom's Hive" which centered around a cult like human ant colony that produced documentary films about insects as part of their activities, and plotted the destruction of the human race. They were, somehow, the good guys.
He must have REALLY liked this movie.
Holy shit, thank you! I've been looking for this for ages.
This won an Oscar in the documentary feature category... That's sort of weird.

I tracked down Roger Eberts 1971 review. It was positive, he loved the camera work, the scientist guy creeped him out, and he had a hard time believing that half of it was true.
This must have been mind-blowing back before insect documentaries because common. I can just imagine half the audience being on acid, with someone freaking out every 2 minutes.
