So I worked at a specialist Scotch whisky shop in Edinburgh for a number of years, sold bottles between and ,000. Also specialized in bourbon and rare rums too, it was a great job. Our shop was sort of in the tourist section of Edinburgh, and we got a shitload of trashy Aussies all coming through asking 'Got any Bundy, mate?'

Our basic response was to tell them to 'get down to the Tesco with the rest of the slime, you vermin.' Bundaberg is so awful as to be beyond description. The supermarket-brand vodka you can get in the UK that is simply marked VODKA is better than Bundaberg.

So I worked in this shop and people kept on walking in asking for a bottle of this liquor we didn't stock, and I kept having to turn them away. Later I asked my liquor guy and we started stocking it and then I sold it to the people who came into my shop. The stuff wasn't to my taste, but no one asked me to drink it and we made some money that way.

Hmmm... The Bundaberg Reserve I drank in Australia tasted very good. It could be sipped with ice or neat. Tasted mildly of molasses and oak. I guess I'm just a barbarian.

I work at a store in the US. We have a similar issue with Wild Irish Rose dessert wine.

We did start stocking it after awhile, and we cashed in.

baleen always has to try to be different, even when shitty drinks are involved.

you go girl!

If only I could be like you, SolRo, the connoisseur of Tiny Toons.

my point is also that overwhelmingly the people asking for Bundy were the trashiest stereotypical drunk Aussie tourists imaginable.

They can be pretty bad. I had to endure hours of Australian men yelling about how much they hated poofta parades. The Monty Python sketch about Australian men, complete with constant beer opening sounds, is 100% accurate.

I am an Australian male in my early 30's and know how bad drunken yobbo, bogan Australians can be.

The basic, stock-standard Bundy is terrible. I don't drink the stuff, but as I used to live reasonably close by, I have been to the distillery.
Over the last couple of years they have been introducing more "premium" varieties to try to capture some of the more upmarket share of the lucrative "get blind drunk and run amuck" Australian alcohol market.

I agree with baleen, Monty Python hit the nail on the head with the Philosopher's Sketch.

ps. A 750ml bottle of regular Bundy sells for around 35AUD. They can fetch up to 4-5 times that in the No-alcohol zones in the Northern Territory's indigenous communities and frontier town-camps. It's the preferred liquor, although mostly fortified wine/port and beer are drunk.
