Desalinated water still has a faint trace of salt, which makes it highly addictive. Too bad I live in a country with plenty of freshwater :(

The desalinated water I've drank (which was an on-ship one so probably nowhere near as sophisticated a system as would be feeding a city) never managed to completely remove the salt and left water that was as refreshing as fresh water and addicting as things with salt on it.
