The first Hobbit was a really bad movie. What a shame.
I couldn't get through the Peter Jackson one, but the Rankin and Bass one is pretty good, so you'll have to clarify what you mean by "first."

Yeah, I meant the first of this trilogy. The Rankin-Bass one has it's charms (the art direction is terrific), but everybody talks absurdly fast and it's heavily abbreviated.
