As much as I like the Final Fantasy IV battle music, this would've been better off with some judiciously inserted slide-whistle pratfall sound effects.

It was one of those times when games were jerking around with grandiose ideas about being cinematic and story driven and this is the game that went completely over the swingset.

People in the game industry barely watch real movies and don't read books. This means that anything with story concept higher than ones found in Donald Duck comics will be seen as revolutionary and groundbreaking and therefore they can look past little things like gameplay.

From what I understand there's no real way to "fuck up" or die: one thing I loved about RE:4 was the satisfaction I still got when I messed up a QTE and got disembowelled, but here you could probably just stand still and all you get is a bad ending like YOU WERE NOT A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO SAVE YOUR SON. That and you have to change shitty diapers and talk people out of suicide. A nice escape from reality..

You could lose characters, in fact the story will work around that fact. I lost the FBI agent in my play through. I nearly lost the father.

For what it's worth, it was an interesting experience to play through once. I'm not sure I could play again though.

Ah ok my bad.. like I said I haven't played it, but I remember watching a bunch of fails on the trials and whatnot and even if you don't make it or don't even try it doesn't seem to mean that the kid's gonna die. If I had a PS3 I'd probably check it out, but LA Noir always seemed like a more interesting way to handle the crime drama genre, AND you could shoot people and sort of drive all by yourself!
