Does any video game rely on rape to set up the drama in a story involving women?
Because 99% of movies do.
I was about to say probably several in Japan.
RapeLay is an eroge. Rape isn't used to 'set up drama', it's the whole point of the game, and at any rate, it's porn. Rape is a common device in porn. You might as well ask, "How many trashy paperbacks, beloved by women, use rape as a plot device?" and the answer, unsurprisingly, is "most of them".
Off thet op of my head, the only "game" games (i.e. mass market games) that use rape as a vehicle for drama are:
Dragon Age (in-game lore has the evil Darkspawn army raping captured women to death)
Batman: Arkham series (enemies will threaten female, and sometimes even male, protagonists with rape)
and Mortal Kombat X (Kano will occasionally threaten to rape you before a fight)
... all of which are largely ignored. Furthermore, while the following example is not used for "drama" in the sense used by Meme, rape actually factors *quite prominently* in the gameplay of MKX. Alien, the Xenomorph character who replaced Baraka (because rape) almost always rapes and murders his defeated opponents. I have NEVER seen this commented on, by anyone - perhaps because Alien, like all Xenomorphs, is an equal-opportunity rapist? Even a gay-preferenced one? When the creator of Kratos threatens to rape Sonya and Kitana, that becomes a huge scandal, but if Johnny Cage gets raped, haha, who cares?
I know. It's a fair question and point, though, deserving of a fair answer.
This is why you are an MVP

According to "Playgirl theory," male video game characters are objectified for the benefit of gay men.

It's just that we're swimming in it. I'm not convinced that this kind of culture turns men into rapists. I think it's pretty good hypothesis that a steady diet of shitty sexist culture, including all this porn on the internet, doesn't prepare men for mature relationships with real women. I'm not going any deeper, but I consider myself an example of this.
Some guys blame feminism for the fact that they can't get laid, but addressing the difference between real women and the women in games and porn might be a more practical approach than turning the clock back on feminism.
The Outer Party gets the Anti-Sex League, the proles get the porn. This is the natural order of things, Orwell was quite clear about that.
I was joking, but I just realized he addresses this a little bit around the 6 minute mark. The Mobius Final Fantasy character needing updating is hilarious.
I wonder if video games are full of this stuff because they take their cues from comic books?
In any case, the medium is the message. I don't own a modern console, so I have no idea about any of what this guy is talking about, and it's insane to me that he can talk for so long about it.
I guess what I mean is, if you buy a game called "Gears of War 3" and then complain about the story after, you might just have unrealistic expectations about the particular corner of the culture you've *chosen* to hang out in.

Good points throughout.

I remember getting high at a friends house, and sitting around watching people play PONG. You might want to take a moment, in order to comprehend just how boring that would be. There isn't enough marijuana in the world.
Back in college the drummer in my band and the guy who would be the drummer in the next three bands I as in after that dropped acid together and watched the dead sober bass player from everybody's bands play Goldeneye for three hours straight, and developed a really complex, pun-based universal metaphysics around the fact that they thought the player's hands looked like ping pong paddles.

In principle, I've been a feminist for 40 years, but I was pretty clueless for most of that time. OBJECTIFICATION is something I've only understood in the past few years. Lacey Green says: "In a sane world, we'd all be objects some of the time, and subjects most of the time."
In other words, objectification is not automatically a bad thing. I saw Suicide Squad today, and I was fascinated by Margot Robbie's ass. It's a real work of body sculpting, and I don't think it's a body double. I didn't think there was anything wrong with admiring Margot Robbie's ass, but why couldn't we also have overweight female ghostbusters in jump suits, just once?
The ghostbros were always talking about how they didn't object to strong women, and some of the positive response to the Wonder Woman trailer. Wonder woman is played by a woman, but is she really a woman? Do you know any incredibly hot women who leap around in sexy video game armor? Strong women are permitted, even admired, but there are rules.
The beautiful thing about Ghostbusters is that there was almost no feminist message, other than it was women doing the awesome shit. This may the first movie I've ever seen that treats being a woman as a perfectly ordinary thing, which is the everyday experience of a little more than half of humanity.
Incidentally, I liked Suicide Squad, even if it was, as advertised, a bit of a mess. I think people don't get the irony of Harley Quinn and the Joker. Yes, it's a sadomasochistic relationship, and yes, it is preseneted as romantic. But the irony is that when the Joker is apparently lost to her, that's when Harley comes into her own. She becomes a real hero. When she throws herself back into the relationship at the end of the movie, it's actually pretty tragic.
I had a long response typed out but I'm going to save myself $10 by just saying this:
I just saw Ghsotbusters 2016 and it is absolutely awful for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the sex or gender of its leads (who are, for the most part, the only redeeming ting in it despite some inconsistent performances and some embarrassing ethnic stereotyping straight out of a 30s Three Stooges film.

>>I just saw Ghsotbusters 2016 and it is absolutely awful for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the sex or gender of its leads.
Why does everybody start out with exactly the same disclaimer?
I respect your opinion, but I've seen this movie in the theater five times, and I've seen it at least three times at home since I purchased it from Google Play, so unless you've seen it nine or more times, I consider my opinion to be better informed.
>>embarrassing ethnic stereotyping straight out of a 30s Three Stooges film.
Please tell me that you're not talking about the Leslie Jones character. I've seen people dismiss Patty in terms that I consider to be pretty racist. There are black people in the real world with colorful vernaculars and blue collar jobs, and it seems disrespectful to them.
Some people object to the fact that she's the only ghostbuster who isn't a scientist. That's a legitimate concern but I don't agree with it.
The main reason why people hate this film isn't misogyny. It's a reverence for the original that is sort of perverse for something that is supposed to be all about irreverence. Also, the original Ghostbusters, while spirited and lovable is not remotely perfect. Like the 2016 version.
Yes, but what does Better Boxxy think about those films?
Also, you are probably the only person who still remembers that Ghostbusters existed. Don't you think it's time you found some new things to get obsessed over? If you'd like, I could compile a list of things, tailored to your interest, for you to consider.
"I respect your opinion, but I've seen this movie in the theater five times, and I've seen it at least three times at home since I purchased it from Google Play, so unless you've seen it nine or more times, I consider my opinion to be better informed. "
I've got better things to do with my time than watch a movie that's comparable to Pixels 9 times.
The preface is because bullshit Internet drama (some grassroots some less so) has politicized the movie so it's no longer possible to publicly comment on its quality as a movie without anything you say being seen as a statement about gender politics.
Which I'm not doing, and I'm not going to pay $10 for calling a shitty movie a shitty movie.
John Holmes Motherfucker
The weird thing is that after saying that they don't hate this movie because it has WOMZ, everybody gives a different reason, and they all contradict each other. It's too much like original. Not enough like the original. The cast has no chemisty. They hate it, even though the cast is good. It's too much of a politically correct SJW sermon. It's as racist as a 1930s Three Stooges film. Read enough comments, and the picture emerges that people hate Ghostbusters 2016 FOR LITERALLY EVERY POSSIBLE REASON except of course, BECAUSE IT HAZ WOMZ! SO ALL YOU SJW CUCKS WERE WRONG!! HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY THINK SUCH A THING???
You don't need to tell me why you hate Ghostbusters 2016. But I'm always amused at how some people seem to think they do. The internet still erupts with rage comments every time the film is mentioned. And remember, the hate started months before anyone saw it.
The film has an audience. There are plenty of people who love it, I tracked them on Twitter. They are human beings, people just like you and me, people with mothers and fathers. On Google play there are 554 one star reviews, and 856 five star reviews. It's a legitimate point of view for a human being to have.
And it's legitimate to not like it, for any fucking reason. Even if you don't like movies with women in them, that's really your taste. I like movies with women in them. My tastes are no more legitimate or noble than anyone else's.
But that's not what's happening here. The film got 73 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, but no one other than mission feminists on youtube says it's good, because it's not worth the hassle. Anybody whose income depends on patreon avoids praising the film. So it's 73 per cent in the press, 0 per cent on youtube.
Its exactly what HBomberGuy is talking about in this video, the forced normalization of a particular viewpoint.

OH, LA-DEE-DA! LOOK AT ME, EVERYBODY! I'M OLD ZIRCON, AND I HAVE A LIFE! EXCUSE ME, I'M OFF TO SPEND SOME TIME DOING SOMETHING MEANINGFUL! You make me sick.
>>>The preface is because bullshit Internet drama (some grassroots some less so) has politicized the movie so it's no longer possible to publicly comment on its quality as a movie without anything you say being seen as a statement about gender politics.
I think I may have read something about that.
>>Which I'm not doing, and I'm not going to pay $10 for calling a shitty movie a shitty movie.
Does that mean you haven't seen it? Don't worry, you can call it a shitty movie for free, and many have. The ten dollars is for your opinion to mean something. On the internet, that's considered a luxury expense.
