Being in the JSDF is soldier cosplay to begin with

Somewhere I've got a great late 90s tape that a friend of mine got after he was laid off of his factory job and had to enlist. It's supposed to get you pumped so you won't back out before basic, and it's all about how in the army you get to jam on guitar in a recording studio and go out clubbing, and line dance at the local country bar, all while getting ripped. Intercut with all the standard TV commercials of that year.
