The lengths police will go to through to take an armed white suspect alive.

Crackersmack - 2021-07-17 this is from the 80s or 90s before something changed and made every single cop into a tactical special forces operator just looking for his next kill
|
Cena_mark - 2021-07-17 It was just before smartphones so we just weren't seeing the carnage
|
Crackersmack - 2021-07-17 that's true but I also can't imagine any scenario in the year 2021 where that dude in the chair isn't murked by the first cop to respond to the scene, like there's no way that something like that ends in any kind of standoff anymore

decoy - 2021-07-17 Pre Rodney King LAPD Chief Daryl Gates made a hard push to militarize the largest PD in the nation, and largely succeeded.

Mister Yuck - 2021-07-17 I always heard (from cop neighbors) that the North Hollywood shootout in 1997 was the catalyst.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2021-07-18 That, and when some white nationalists were pulled over by Ohio state troopers and it turned into a shootout. Over-examination of the dash video fueled the whole "be jumpy at everything" mentality.

I grew up just over a mile from where this happened. Most of the area, like the subdivision behind the mullet, are 1980's developed neighborhoods with three to four bedroom family homes. Typical suburbia. Not really the kind of place one normally expects armed standoffs with rednecks.

jfcaron_ca - 2021-07-17 During the 1st lockdown I saw a redneck all the way in downtown. With us out of the way nature was reclaiming the space.

Hazelnut - 2021-07-19 There's that one crazy video of a redneck approaching a locked down bookstore. I don't think he got in though.
