The Japanese are stereotyped as workaholics, but don't forget that the average American works longer hours than the average Japanese.
My partner and I work several hundred hours more per year than the American average, and we can barely afford one kid (daycare alone, for instance, is $21,600/year).
No shit people are having less kids.
