This is brilliantly done, and fascinating. And I agree with his second theorem (ghosts) but also couldn't it be the acting genius of Nicholson realizing that this is one way to signal mental illness? He's looking at something, acknowledging something, that others don't see or acknowledge. That's kind of the definition of madness.

Just watch Room 237 for much more entertaining insane people obsessive over this movie.

i went and watched half of Room 237 and my main take away is: wow there are a lot of different ways to be mentally ill, huh?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2023-06-04

I just found out that my Facebook friend Amy Rinker died from cancer. Her Dad was the local anchor man at Channel 12 in Binghamton, and he lived in our neighborhood. I only found out when I looked up her Dad, Glenn Rinker, years later, that he had been in the Shining, as himself, reading the news on Scatman Crothers' TV set.

So, as it happens, I sat down and really watched it last night, for the first time in years, and when you really sit down and watch it, it's such a terrific movie, and it's so filled with iconic scenes and images that I felt like I had seen it more than I actually had.

Jack gets a little Nic Cagey toward the end, but if you really pay attention to the whole performance, you really believe that he was driven just this crazy.
