The only funny shit that I've seen on this show in years has been from the lonely island people. With any luck this will destroy college rasta forever.
I read your comment and went "Oh this isn't from youtube? I wonder what sketch show is lame enough to produce something like this." Then I saw it was SNL, and I was kind of proud of them. This is a mediocre sketch at best, okay for a viral video, but it was incredibly insightful and resonant for an SNL sketch. It lacked their characteristic thick layer of superficiality, although in retrospect it still had a lot of the usual detatchment. But lots of sketch players come off as detatched.
I guess what I'm saying is it came off as sort of rough and in need of punching up but with a solid premise and some really genuine moments, and while that's not saying much for a normal sketch show, or even a youtube video advertising a live troupe, it's exactly the kind of thing that SNL has completely lost. It's not much, but for them it's a singular achievement. I might have to start watching again, if just to see if they're really improving.
