I found the professional pianist useless. The entire reason this is cool is one person can make a decent song with out doing anything significant or any practice. And all he did was go apeshit on the the one side he knew how to play.

The people who invent these things never seem to know what actual musicians will do with them.

kingarthur - 2008-11-23 I don't have any tapes of me using the old mellotron. Several moves, a killer hurricane and ex-girlfriends have destroyed those. I do have a very newborn reverbnation page with a song on it using the Reason mellotron software. It's called "Not Tricky Enough" though I use the organ sound fairly often. I'm at www.reverbnation.com/kingarthurexperience
And no, video of my old mellotron going brutal do not exist. :(

Waltzes and two-steps are fine, old chap, but I say, could one use this device for skiffle?
|
kingarthur - 2008-11-23 I used this thing in combination with a Yamaha PSR520 and RY8 drum machine. I was all over with the crazy sounds.

Oh, not to be a skeptic, but I must point out that "thumbs" were not considered "fingers" in his paradigm.. I feel cheated somewhat.

I've often wanted an Optigan, which is pretty much the same principle except everything's on a single optical disc instead of being recorded on a bunch of separate tapes.

Fantastic. 60s England could easily be summed up with flock wallpaper, being the campest thing in the world without actually admitting to being gay, and this: the soundtrack to every spy movie and Indian restaurant of the era.
