The anti-war thrust of the song is ironically juxtaposed with canned laughter every time a puppet gets shot. This use of artificial emotion to reinforce the inherent entertainment value of violence causes the viewer to introspectively consider whether this attitude is, itself, the reason we can't be friends. Five stars.
Predictably, Statler and Waldorf could care less about the moral quandary asked of us by the main narrative and, instead, are happy enough to indiscriminately shoot up the place with an old MG08.
