Mike Rinder goes from looking like a strung out meth-head while working for the CoS, and then looks healthy and normal once outside of the cult... hmmm curiouser and curioser.
The problem is that no one inside the CoS knows the truth about their cult anymore, that passed away with LRH and his wife... everyone else has been indoctrinated, and they've been running on auto-pilot for years. Sooner or later they will run out of fuel and crash.
They don't seem to be running out of people willing to give away all their money to join a slave labor force, and the slave drivers don't seem to be running low on manufacturing contracts.
You need to do some research on the COS, Ocy. They'll be around for a long time, the asmatic dwarf is making sure of that. I was surprised to see Rinder out and about; this guy was the #1 hit man for the cult back in the day.
The CoS's future is the same as the Church of Christ, Scientist. Without a steady influx of membership, the church has to rely solely on it's publishing income to pay the upkeep on its enormous properties, thus becoming dependent upon being more mainstream than esoteric and weird.
Mary Baker Eddy was fifteen times the charismatic leader that L. Ron Hubbard was, and the dangerous thing was that she meant every single word of it. Unfortunately, they sank too much money into property and now have to deal with it as a problem. CoS has far more money invested in property and upkeep and will have to decide to turn middle of the road, like Christian Science, or foreswear their enormous buildings and cruise ships to survive. Dollars to Donettes which one they choose.
